May 2021 Astrology Overview

Hi Friends,
Big Astrology month ahead! May is one of the most pivotal months of 2021. There is lots of cosmic activity that is sure to modify the dynamics of our lives. We have three planets changing signs, Mercury retrograde and a Lunar Eclipse that will shake our belief systems. There will be plenty of communication throughout the month thanks to Mercury, Venus and the Sun transiting Gemini. We also have Jupiter, the benevolent planet in our solar system that moves into Pisces by mid month. Jupiter represents abundance and can shine a light and expand our gifts and talents. In fact, if you were born under a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) this can be considered a lucky omen!

It’s not all peaches and cream in May that’s because there will be a Total Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius towards the end of the month. This type of Eclipse is also referred to as a “Blood Moon”. This term is what astronomers call a Total Lunar Eclipse. This occurs when the Sun, Earth and the Full Moon are perfectly aligned with each other so the Moon enters Earth’s umbral shadow in space. We have not experienced a Blood Moon Eclipse since 2019, so it’s likely that we are going to feel this energy strongly.

In Astrology eclipses are cosmic wild cards so anything is possible especially a Blood Moon Eclipse, which can often be intense, and bring sudden endings or disruption to our lives. They can also stir up emotions and make us feel extra sensitive. While Eclipses can be potent, they do help us to level up and take a quantum leap forward on our path. Whatever falls away, as hard as it may be, is always a catalyst for our growth even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time….a few days after the eclipse Mercury goes retrograde.

The month begins as the radiant Sun continues to make its way through steady Taurus. The Sun’s annual visit to this earthy sign helps us to get back to the basics and reminds us of what’s important. Our thinking begins to shift on May 3rd when Mercury makes its way into the sign of Gemini. Mercury will remain in Gemini for almost two months thanks to its retrograde beginning on May 29th. During this transit we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury feels right at home in Gemini, one of the signs that it rules. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than digging deep into any one topic. We are especially astute when it comes to arguing or making a point. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations. We are easily distracted as well.

The Gemini theme continues on May 8th when Venus enters Gemini too. Venus is all about partnerships and others, in Gemini she flourishes with a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on a romantic and social level. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude during this transit. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness and restlessness.

This month’s New Moon on May 11th will be in the earthy sign of Taurus. The New Moon in Taurus is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures–savor good food and enjoy activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. It’s time to stop and smell the roses and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. This is a good cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions and to discover what truly makes us happy and fulfilled. Since Taurus energy is very practical, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that are solid yet realistic. This New Moon harmonizes with Neptune and Pluto, suggesting that our inspiration and determination support our efforts to start something new.

And speaking of inspiration, on May 14th Jupiter enters Pisces for the first time in twelve years. Jupiter is quite happy swimming in the wide and deep waters of Pisces. Jupiter is known as the Great Teacher, but during his transit through Pisces, the most important knowledge doesn’t come from reading books or listening to lectures. This is a time to learn from our souls, our compassion and intuition. It’s a time to gain knowledge through silence, whether through meditation or walking through a quiet forest. Information and truths are sensed and learned within us and cannot be reduced to a simple sentence or two. With Jupiter in Pisces, the real prizes are found in our hearts, not in our heads.

Pisces is the sign of spirituality, and Jupiter is the planet of philosophy and religion. When these two team up, our concept of faith expands greatly. We can learn so much about our own spiritual connections by listening to the experiences and views of others. Instead of seeing our personal viewpoints as right and others’ as wrong, this is a time to realize that we are all connected to the same sense of spirit, even if the specific paths we take and symbols or teachings we follow look different from someone else’s.

Our need for communication and interaction increases tenfold on May 20th as the Sun makes its way into versatile Gemini. When the Sun moves into the mutable air sign of Gemini, which is ruled by the planet Mercury, its energy is flexible, quick, and filled with curiosity. When the life-giving forces of the Sun shine through Gemini, we get the incessant questions of the young child who wants to know everything there is to know, and whose mind soaks up the answers like a sponge. Gemini is about ideas: talking about them, thinking about them, swirling around in them. While the Sun, whose energy defines life itself, is traveling through this world, we really need those facts and figures and trivia. We thrive on variety and thirst for change.

Our responsibility and purpose begin to turn inward on May 23rd when Saturn retrogrades in Aquarius. During this reversal from May 23rd to October 10, 2021 we will feel a need to slow down and balance our social lives with our inner worlds. It’s a time to do anything that helps us gain deeper insight into what makes us tick, so that we can continue on our paths of self-improvement. Saturn in reverse means that the external boundaries we live within take a backseat to our rich inner world. We’ll trust ourselves enough to question these boundaries, and because retrograde with any planet is a prime time to look back on our personal paths, we can examine failures and let-downs, learn from them, apply these lessons to how we’ll conduct ourselves in the future … then move on.

And speaking of moving on, we have a powerful Total Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26th.This will be one of the most pivotal cosmic events of May, if not the whole year! The Moon will turn a reddish color as we experience a Total Lunar Eclipse. This is very strong energy indicating changes ahead. Something may suddenly exit our lives, or we may receive some important news. Blood Moon Eclipses are also powerful portals that allow us to make a quantum leap into higher states of consciousness. Even though they can bring heavy energy and perhaps even jarring news, it all serves to help the evolution of our soul journey.

Since eclipses symbolize change and lunar energies rule our subconscious there will be a lot of internal reprogramming/shifting going on. Also, being that it’s a Full Moon and it’s a time of culmination as well as endings. Time to say goodbye to our old views and welcome the some new ones!

With all eclipses and full moons this can be a time of heightened emotions especially for those of you who are very sensitive to energy. With that in mind don’t beat yourself up or over think this energy. Since this lunation will be in Sagittarius it carries with it themes of growth, truth and consciousness. Sagittarius is all about expansion especially beyond limited beliefs, beyond borders, and beyond the veil that separates us from our divine nature.

As if the Lunar Eclipse was an enough of a doorway to the past, on May 29th Mercury goes retrograde in Gemini. With Mercury retrograde from May 29th to June 22nd we’ll have plenty of opportunities to revisit the past one last time before moving forward. During this three week period lots of old ideas will need some rethinking or correcting. Overlooked errors will find their way into our awareness.

Communications of all kinds just do not come out right. The receiver gets a garbled message from the sender more often than not. What you say gets misinterpreted, you write down the wrong number, the computer acts up, your flight gets delayed or cancelled, things you buy don’t work….the list goes on and on. If you can wait, put off making any BIG decisions until Mercury turns direct.

As you can see the cosmic energy for May 2021 can be a potentially
challenging time, but it’s worth remembering that all challenges come with their rewards.

Enjoy the Journey!!
