Welcome to 2018, a year where we will find ourselves taking a long hard look at our futures while being very practical about the decisions we make. In the year ahead we will need to put in the extra effort if we are to be rewarded for hard work and accomplishments. We will be looking to build stronger foundations and seeking out innovative approaches to finances all with the possibility of greater reward. The astrology for 2018 indicts a less turbulent year than 2016 and 2017 but the array of planetary combinations that would build up are much more than we have seen in the past few years. Jupiter & Pluto are within a harmonious space of each other and that promises good financial growth personally as well as changes in the world markets.
The year starts off strong with both Mars and Jupiter together in Scorpio, and we’re focused on transforming for the better. Saturn and Pluto are also together in 2018 in Capricorn, and energy can be disciplined, focused, unrelenting at times, but incredibly powerful. Both Venus & Mars retrograde in 2018 though, Venus in Libra & Scorpio, throwing off relationships and connections, and Mars in Capricorn & Aquarius, throwing off goals, the future, our paths. Mars retrograde comes with a fixed t-square (difficult aspect) first, digging us in place, and then a Capricorn stellium (over powering), rocking the world a little. 2018 ends with Mars and Neptune together in Pisces, and we end the year with a little more compassion and empathy.
Three planets play a major role in 2018; they are Uranus, Saturn, and Jupiter. In January, Uranus, the planet that represents sudden change and originality begins to move forward once again inspiring us to follow the visions of a grander tomorrow. From May 15th to November 6th, Uranus will make its way into the materialistic and resourceful sign of Taurus. Taurus not only represents the physical and material world, but it also represents our values and beliefs, so during this transit we can expect many surprises having to do with the economy or financial matters, along with shocking information that questions what we believe in. Uranus in Taurus will most likely affect how we maintain our physical and material security as well. Are we comfortable financially? Do we have enough for the future? Are we secure in our current positions? You can choose to reinvent yourself in these areas or you can resist. If you fight it, though, you’ll only feel more rattled and ultimately left behind as the world heads into more progressive terrain.
Without a doubt, 2018 will be all about serious business as Saturn and Pluto join forces in the sign of Capricorn. Pluto has been making its way through Capricorn since 2008 revolutionizing and transforming anything having to do with governments, corporations, religious institutions, or any large entity that controls the population. Saturn is known as the taskmaster, or the Lord of Karma and the Great teacher to name a few. Without Saturn we have no stability in life. It shows us both our structures and our boundaries. Saturn changes signs about every two and a half years, and takes about 30 years to circle through the entire zodiac. Saturn entered Capricorn on December 19, 2017 where it will remain until March 23, 2020.
Saturn in Capricorn is far different than Saturn in Sagittarius where it was ruled by Jupiter, the planet associated with concepts, ideas, and philosophies (politics included). Saturn is in its home sign of Capricorn. With Saturn now transiting Capricorn we will all begin a new cycle and chapter altogether, both individually and collectively. Capricorn is a no frills sign and deals with power, business and structure. Saturn here is concerned with security and structure, tradition, organization, big business and defense. If left unchecked, big business can become the new Gods of the Universe as Saturn moves through this sign. Saturn in Capricorn can denote great wealth but also great limitations. Saturn was in Capricorn during the worst part of the Great Depression in the early 1930’s. Saturn in Capricorn is considered a cycle of achievement and maturity.
Another planet that is heightening our senses and awareness in the world is Jupiter continuing its transit of Scorpio. Jupiter, the planet of possibilities, began swimming in the emotional depths of Scorpio back on October 10, 2017 and remains in this sign until November 8, 2018. Jupiter’s effects are to expand our experiences, our knowledge, and our understanding. Jupiter represents optimism, growth, generosity, and abundance. Jupiter’s transit through intense and passionate Scorpio urges us to go after our hearts’ desires. As Jupiter moves through Scorpio, we learn and understand that in order to heal, we have to cut out the fluff and focus on what really matters to us. Because Jupiter’s nature is extravagant, we must guard against “too much.” Moderation doesn’t come naturally to either Jupiter or Scorpio.
Jupiter and Pluto will also work together well this year — a stark contrast to the power struggle they engaged in during 2017. On January 15th, April 14th, and September 12th, these planets will help us remember that we have the power within us all along. More importantly, this planetary connection will encourage us to use it in a way that strengthens those in our inner circle. Business and financial ventures will be favored during these transits. On November 8th Jupiter enters Sagittarius, the sign Jupiter naturally rules. This will be an auspicious time when we notice greater success and support in any endeavor that opens our minds. It will be a time to explore new horizons.
Lastly, Mars and Venus will both retrograde in 2018, making certain times tricky to successfully negotiate new business ventures and romantic endeavors. Avoid launching anything new from both June 26th – August 27th while Mars is retrograde, and October 5th – November 16th when Venus retrograde. Remember, success in life is most supported when we swim with — and not against — the tides. Why create unnecessary strain? Don’t work in contradiction with planetary cycles. Instead, let them work for you.
Uranus has been in your sign since 2010, but he starts to exit in 2018, starting his tour of Taurus mid-May through early November. These years have likely brought a lot of changes in your life or of yourself, and that can begin to slow down. Those of you Aries born after April 14th will still experience Uranus on your Sun in 2018, so you’ve still got the strong dose of change energy in your life, and you can work at making changes. Just make sure you do your homework and are smart about the changes you do make. If you were born before April 14th, you’ve already experience Uranus on your Sun, so the energy isn’t as strong for you now, and you can focus on slowing changes down and taking more time to implement them.
As Uranus is ending his tour of your sign, asteroid Chiron, ruler of our wounds, starts his tour in your sign mid-April through September. As you wind down from the change energy of Uranus, you can now focus more on trying to tend to old wounds, heal, and grow. You can start to find power in your ability to heal, and this can help you to become more focused. Your ruler retrogrades in 2018, Mars, late June through late August. Whenever your ruler retrogrades, you can feel off in a subtle way, so you may be feeling quite a bit off midyear. Your temper can be shorter, and you may have a harder time with patience or compromise. Mercury is also retrograde in your sign late March through mid-April, which can also be a period where you feel off, but it may be more obvious, and you have to work on doing things over again or working on resolving old problems. Those of you born April 4th – 7th may feel the start of the retrograde most, and those of you born March 23rd – 26th may feel the end of the retrograde most.
You may get a little focus on your dreams this year with a Solar Eclipse February 15th and Lunar Eclipse July 27th in Aquarius, and you can focus on a new dream early in the year and see culminations with the Solar Eclipse. Mars retrogrades partially in Aquarius though, late June through mid-August, so you may need to make some adjustments before you can make any big progress.

You have one really big astrological event occurring in 2018, Taurus, as Uranus begins to tour your sign. Uranus spends a long time in one sign, usually 7-8 years, so this can be a big period that starts in 2018 for change for you. Uranus is the planet of change, and you can focus on making some changes in your life or with yourself, shaking things up or shifting your perspective. You can feel it in a subtle way as soon as Uranus enters Taurus in mid-May (and remains until early November), though those of you born April 24th and earlier may be the ones really getting the brunt of the change energy in 2018. But Taurus gets some of it no matter what, so start thinking about the changes you’d like to make to improve your life and work on your plans so you can make the most of this time.
Your ruler, Venus, is also retrograde October to mid-November in 2018, so this may be a period when you not only deal with issues in your relationships (in October) and with work (first half of November), but also feel off in a subtle way throughout the retrograde. Give yourself more time, space, and get some extra rest.
The February 15th solar eclipse occurs in your career and goals sector, and this can be a great time to work harder with your career, make strides with your goals, and set new goals. You can be more enthusiastic about your path, can embark on a new direction, and can take advantage of opportunities to achieve your goals and make things happen. All of your hard and smart work can culminate with the July 27th lunar eclipse in your career and goals sector, and you can be rewarded for hard and smart work, and experience a little success.
Jupiter starts 2018 in your relationship sector, a continuation from October of 2017 that lasts until November 2018, and brings his expansive and beneficial energy to your relationships. You can meet new people, enjoy spending time with loved ones, and improve your relationships, especially as the year begins with Mars in your relationship sector in January. It might be a little more pressing in October when Venus is retrograde (appearing to move backward) in your relationship sector, and you may have a harder time getting along with others and experience issues come up in your relationships. It can be good to reconnect with people from the past, but they may not stick around too long past the retrograde.

Your ruler is Mercury, so whenever he is retrograde, you can feel off in a subtle way. For 2018, this is late March to mid-April (bringing more changes into your life, making you question your dreams, or experiencing difficulty with friends or groups), late July to mid-August (bringing miscommunication, fights, a lack of focus, or difficulty with plans), and mid-November to early December (bringing issues with work and relationships). It’s important you give yourself time and are more patient with others and with yourself while Mercury is retrograde, and keep yourself flexible.
2018 may be more about focusing on trying to forge better intimacy and emotional bonds with the people in your life as both Saturn and Pluto are in your intimacy sector for the year. You may need to get rid of some people from your life that you don’t feel a strong connection to, and work on strengthening the connections you have with others. Mars is in this sector mid-March through mid-May, bringing more focus and energy to this, and is retrograde (appears to move backward) in this sector the second half of August, which can bring out problems or issues with intimacy or your intimate relationships that you need to address. Mars remains in this sector to mid-September, and you can work on getting back on track quickly.
Venus is retrograde is your love sector the first half of November, and this can bring about difficulties getting along with others, with commitment, or within your relationships and the people in your life. You may need to be more patient and generous, focused on them and giving them and your relationships the attention they need. Mars is in your relationship sector late January through mid-March, and this can bring energy and drive to focus on the people in your life and your relationships at the time. Jupiter enters your relationship sector in early November, and you get a one year period where you can have beneficial energy for your relationships, and you can enjoy time spent with others, meet new people, enter into new commitments and partnerships, and improve your relationships. This may not be evident right off of the bat though with Mercury retrograde in this sector the second half of November, and you may see extra communication problems and misunderstandings, so try to listen more.

A solar eclipse occurs August 11th in your money sector, and this can be a good time to focus on new financial opportunities, but with Mercury retrograde in your money sector late July to mid-August, you may want to focus on giving old money opportunities a try.
Jupiter remains in your love sector to start 2018 and you can use his beneficial, expansive energy to bring more love into your love, share the love you feel, and be more affectionate. If single, you can enjoy playing the field and meeting lots of new suitors, and if in a relationship, you can work to bring the sparks back. This is especially the case to kick the year off with Mars also in this sector in January. In October, Venus retrogrades (appears to move backward) in your love sector though, and you may experience issues with loved ones, feel less love for something or someone, or are desperate for attention. Mercury then retrogrades in this sector the first week of December, and you can experience communication issues with loved ones. Make sure you have extra patience during these retrogrades. They can be good for reconnecting with old flames.
Mars is in your relationship sector mid-March through mid-May, bringing more energy, drive, and focus to your relationships and the people in your life. Mars moves into your intimacy sector mid-May, making that more of a priority, but retrogrades in your intimacy sector late June through mid-August, and then in your relationship sector the second half of August. This can bring some struggles in a relationship, with someone in your life, and you may feel you’re being tested. You may need to work on finding middle ground and coming together, and avoid giving in to petty arguments and being defensive. Mars is in your relationship sector to mid-September, and then in your intimacy sector to mid-November, so you’re spending a good chunk of 2018 focused on your relationships. This can be a great time to work on making them better, especially with Saturn and Pluto in your relationship sector all year. See where you can improve, where you can transform, and where you need to let go.

This year is a big year for you with work, as Saturn and Pluto are both in your work sector all year. You can take more work on and feel more under pressure, and may need to work on doing work that you love and are passionate about. If you’re not passionate about what you do, that can become much worse this year, and you can crave more change. Mars is in this sector starting mid-March through mid-May, bringing more energy and attention to your goals, direction, and career, and retrogrades in this sector the second half of August, which is the time of year you can feel the least connected to what you’re doing if you don’t care for it. You may want to enact a change at that point, but don’t rush into anything you haven’t done your homework with yet. Make sure you’ve got all of your ducks in a row and don’t act impulsively if you do make a change. Mars is in this sector until early September, and you can focus on getting on the right path.
The super good for you in 2018 is you’ve got a Lunar Eclipse in your sign on January 31st, and a Solar Eclipse in your sign on August 11th. The Lunar Eclipse can heighten your emotions and bring more focus on what you’ve been doing right and wrong, so you can make progress and experience success if you’ve been smart and working hard and been responsible, or you can experience setbacks and delays if you haven’t been, or you haven’t cared for what you’re working on. The Solar Eclipse is usually a great time to work on new projects, new beginnings, new journeys and new opportunities, BUT this Solar Eclipse occurs while Mercury is also retrograde in your sign, which is late July to mid-August.
So it’s really best for second chances, and anything you’ve been wanting to take a second chance with but haven’t done so yet, you can focus on doing so then. The energy can be excellent for a second chance, so think long and hard about what you’d like another shot at. But do know that during the retrograde, you may feel quite off, and can see a lot of little things go wrong and feel extra stressed, so be patient with yourself and don’t take on too much. Those of you Leos born August 14th – 17th can feel the start of the retrograde most in late July, and those of you Leos born August 2nd – 5th can feel the end of the retrograde most in mid-August.

You can also pursue opportunities to achieve your dreams, and work to move along closer to what you hope your life will be like.
